The disgusting view from my apartment window today:



Isn't it time for spring yet? It was like 57 yesterday. This is like Ithaca all over again... ugh.

Demetri Martin

As a consultant between projects, one has an abundance of downtime. I try to make the most of this by exploring the weeknight life of NYC while I'm in town and unstaffed.

Tonight, I was fortunate enough to see the observational comic Demetri Martin perform live at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. If you watch Comedy Central at all, you may recognize his face if not his name:



This guy is brilliant. After going to Yale undergrad and getting sick of NYU Law School, he started dabbling in comedy, doing stand-up and one-man shows at NYC clubs, writing for the The Daily Show and now, Conan O'Brian. His comedy style is mostly random observations in the form of smart one-liners set and delivered in cadence to self-composed bits of live guitar, xylophone, and electronic keyboard. He also uses a large spiral pad to superb effect and has a penchant for anagrams and palindromes. If you can at all appreciate dorky humor, you will love this dude.

If you are in the City, Demetri will perform his act again on March 14th & 21st at 8pm, also again at the UCB Theatre. I highly recommend it. At $8, it's cheaper than a movie and infinitely more worth your while.
